Richland County High School FBLA
The Richland County FBLA members are enjoying a great year.
In early November, twelve members attended the National Fall Leadership Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where they participated in several exciting workshops and had tons of fun participating in a scavenger hunt. In the middle of November, members raked leaves for some elderly community members. They also held a pie sale prior to he Thanksgiving holiday and provided a food stand at the RCES family read night as well as at the annual Christmas Parade.
The chapter held its annual Adopt-a- Family fundraiser in early December. With the help of all of the high school students and staff members, they raised over $450 to be used
to buy Christmas presents for a family in need. The chapter also held an etiquette dinner for its members. For the etiquette dinner, the students wore professional dress and learned how to dine correctly in formal situations. The members also played Christmas games and prepared Christmas cards for the residents at Emerald Glen.
In January, the officers attended the Dundas Ruritan's monthly meeting and gave a presentation on FBLA. Also in January, the chapter hosted a career fair for all high school students. This event was held to educate the students of RCHS about the many job opportunities that are available in Richland County. Several area businesses set up booths in Ron Herrin Gymnasium where the students had the opportunity to talk to the employees and business owners and were able to watch various demonstrations.
Overall, this event demonstrated to the students that there are a wide variety of career opportunities right here in Richland County. The Eastern Area FBLA Conference was to be held this month as well; however, due to weather conditions the conference was cancelled.
During FBLA week, the chapter held various dress-up days and activities. On Monday, the students relaxed by wearing their pajamas to school and then gathered at lunch for a chapter meeting. Monday also kicked-off the week long scavenger hunt. Tuesday was school spirit day and the members gathered together in the evening for board games. Wednesday was hat day and Thursday was FBLA t-shirt day. To finish the week, Friday was Flannel Friday, and the members enjoyed an evening of pizza and bowling.
Fifteen of the twenty-one members are also preparing for competition at the StateLeadership Conference in Springfield.

Warren Township High School FBLA
Over the past year, Warren Township High School’s FBLA chapter has developed a beneficial community service relationship with the Warren Boosters Organization. Through this relationship, members are able to volunteer and assist with concession sales at Boosters' stands at various sporting events that are held at our school. The events are held at both the high school and grade school levels, giving members an opportunity to serve a large variety of people. Members work by selling and serving food to the spectators at these various sporting events, which gives our members first-hand experience connecting with other students and people in the community. This relationship has proven to be helpful to the members, as well a the Boosters, because WTHS FBLA is their first call when they need volunteers for their events. Overall, we are glad that this relationship has been established, and it exemplifies how FBLA is involved within the community and school at the same time.
On Sunday, January 29, the Warren Township High School FBLA chapter held a dodge-ball tournament that doubled as a fundraiser for the March of Dimes. The dodgeball tournament had a great turnout with 45 members in attendance, which composed eight different teams. Teams played games in bracket format and then a finals bracket was determined to end up with a champion team. After all games were finished, pizza was provided for the players, and the winner was acknowledged. Warren sophomores, Veeshva Rana and Evan Leden, were co-chairs of the tournament. All in all, WTHS FBLA raised over $400 for the March of Dimes, and the dodge-ball tournament will become an annual event. It was a great way to get members together, and help a cause!

Warren Township High School FBLA’s Partnership with Business committee has been educating children throughout the community on how to be safe in various areas of their lives. Through their Safety Smart program, and a partnership with Underwriter’s Laboratories, they have educated over 200 children. The committee has also met with 4 district superintendents, school principals, park district directors, and Deepa Shankar, the Education and Outreach Partnership Manager for UL. Areas of education include fire safety, internet safety, environmental safety, water safety, and more! They believe that it is important to educate children throughout the community on how to be safe in different aspects of their lives.
The Warren Township High School FBLA chapter believes in the importance of helping out your elders, which is why they have begun volunteering at a local assisted living home. Members go through an orientation before volunteering at Sunrise Assisted Living. While volunteering members play games, talk with, and more with the elders. It is a great way that members become involved in their community and the people around them.

Mundelein High School FBLA
Mundelein High School FBLA has taken steps this year to grow our community service efforts. Whether it be working at Feed My Starving Children, partnering with Project Linus, or donating to Adopt a Family, the chapter has been increasing volunteerism within the community. For FBLA-PBL week's Service Day, members wrote letters to the 3rd Marine Division stationed in Okinawa, Japan. All members wrote about their appreciation of the servicemen and women's work, and also incorporated unique personal messages.
Activities such as these are becoming a core part of MHS chapter life. Officers have been looking to set up more opportunities such as these for members to grow our chapter’s involvement in the Mundelein community, and look forward to increasing chapter volunteerism.
Wauconda High School
Northern Area Competition
Wauconda FBLA had many amazing successes at our Northern Area competition on January 21st, held at Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois. With over 90 students in attendance, our chapter made some excellent strides in competition and traveled home with our heads held high. Out of over 100 competitors, 45 events received top 10 finishes. We had 5 events take first place, 4 carrying the silver, and 6 events placing third. We had 5 events coming in fourth and 7 fifth-place finishers as well. As the conference came to a close, our March of Dimes committee leader, Philip Solis, was pied in the face, as our chapter raised the most money to win the March of Dimes fundraising competition on that Saturday. Junior Tommy O'Brien was elected our 2017-2018 Northern Area President for the upcoming FBLA year, bringing pride to the Wauconda community. Our came out strong, and this day provided to be a indication of our future chapter successes.
Feed My Starving Children
One of the most exciting and energetic volunteer events, Wauconda FBLA took 49 students and 4 chaperones to the Libertyville Feed My Starving Children location on January 25th. Our high school chapter members were able to work alongside younger volunteers from the local middle schools Student Council and National Junior Honors Society program, and we were able to lead them in the work that was ahead. Students were full of anticipation to begin packing, and with everyone's enthusiasm and hard work, we were able to pack 182 boxes of Manna Pack Rice Formula, totaling 39,312 meals, and eeding 107 impoverished children for a year.
Meals for All
Carrying on the legacy of a former Community Service Project and 2015 Nationals 2nd Place finisher, Wauconda FBLA continues to serve the community through our volunteering spirit and warm meals. Each month, a local business, restaurant, or organization sponsorsWaucondaHigh School's Meals for All program, which provides a main course of food to serve meals to low income families, senior citizens, and home bound community members. All meals cost $1 each, and all proceeds from these meals go back into the Meals for All program to upkeep the services that we are able to provide.
January 11th
January 2017 was a booming success for Meals for All! Our dinner, sloppy Joes, coleslaw, and potato chips was served to the community, with an addition of chicken soup and dessert ice cream by the our local Moose Lodge location and venue. Over 80 people were served, and our advisor, Mrs. Wendy Mills and chapter members personally delivered 11 meals to those who could not attend, including senior citizens.
February 8th
In their love for Wauconda and the joy that this event brings to the community, local Wauconda marina and restaurant Lindy's Landing as well as Slyce Coal-Fired Pizza Company sponsored a pasta and salad dinner for our February Meals for All. This dinner was served to over 90 attendees, and 10 were delivered to individuals who could not attend.

Our chapter has been working diligently to prepare for this conference, hosting over 5 practice sessions with Professional Division member judges who provide presentation tips and critique. Individual and team practice and mentoring sessions have been held over the course of the past month with our local Professional Division members as well. Chapter 563 is ready and looking carry on our legacy of leadership at this conference.
Summer Leadership Workshop
This past summer, Wauconda High School FBLA brought 24 people to the Summer Leadership Workshop in Springfield, Illinois. Chapter members heard from Key Note speakers, networked with fellow FBLA members from other Illinois state chapters, and participated in diverse games that aided in developing their leadership skills.
In order to begin our legacy of leadership this year, we served meals to low income families and community members looking to connect with the Wauconda youth and community as a whole. These monthly dinners represent Wauconda’s FBLA’s legacy of service, leadership, and accountability, as we have been able to carry the legacy of this former Community Service Project for the past 3 years. Connecting and partnering with local businesses allowed us to provide the food to the community.

COMING UP!
November Meals for All (11/9)
Veterans eat for free! This upcoming Meals for All, on November 16, will be specially catered towards the veterans residing in the Wauconda area. During the past Meals for All events, there has not been a specific demographic catered to, therefore this upcoming Meals for All is especially important as we are supporting and helping those who have served.
Homecoming Window Painting
As an annual WHS Homecoming festivity, our FBLA chapter participated in a window painting contest on two local business windows located on Main Street, along with extracurricular clubs and class participants. Our window portrayed a classic, business-style take on the Disney Homecoming theme, featuring Mickey Mouse in appropriate business attire, as well as the 75th anniversary emblem.
Duck Drop Fundraiser
The Duck Drop was a new and unique fundraiser, premiering this year. Five hundred rubber ducks were numbered and sold to students and staff during their lunch hour on Fridays through the football season, as well as at the football games themselves. Each duck cost $5, and buyers were able to choose their lucky numbered ducks for their chance to win. After the home football game against Grant on October 14th, the FBLA Advisor, Wendy Mills, the chapter President, Jessica Diol, and the chapter Vice President, Taylor Lambert, all went into the Wauconda Fire Department's ladder platform. The ladder was extended and raised up over the football field, where a large target was laid out below. Jessica dumped all 500 ducks out of the bucket and onto the target. The four ducks closest to the target were awarded the top cash prizes, and the farthest duck was awarded the lowest cash prize. The duck drop proved to be a successful fundraiser, and the profits made at this event helped to lower area competition costs for hopeful FBLA competitors.

Ending the first quarter of Wauconda’s legacy of leadership, 25 chapter members, Adviser Wendy Mills, Key Workshop Speaker and chaperone, Louis Sharp, and chaperone Mrs. Winkel, all attended NFLC in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 4 and 5th.
